bbw promotes improved vocational training programmes and job placement in Honduras

In cooperation with the umbrella organisation of chambers of commerce and industry in Honduras - FEDECAMARA - and two high-performing chambers in Tegucigalpa and Choloma (Cámara de Comercio e Industrias de Tegucigalpa - CCIT and Cámara de Comercio e Industrias de Choloma - CCICH), bbw is promoting the improvement of training provision and labour market integration services in five regional chambers, namely the chambers of commerce and industry in Atlántida CCIA, Choluteca CCISUR, Comayagua CCICOM, Cortes CCIC and Olancho CCIO. In line with regional needs, the staff of these chambers are being trained to improve their vocational training services and to implement various job placement measures. Honduran young people and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) benefit from the improved services offered by the chambers, with the young people finding employment and the MSMEs improving their competitiveness through better trained staff.

Chambers strengthen their position as important players in the vocational training system

The National Institute for Vocational Training (INFOP) is responsible for non-formal vocational training in Honduras. It coordinates initial and continuing vocational training. However, as INFOP is only present in few government districts, it concludes cooperation agreements with private sector institutions, such as the chambers of commerce, which then implement vocational training programmes in decentralised cooperation centres with funding from INFOP. Through such cooperation agreements, the chambers generate income in addition to the contributions of their member companies, thereby securing their existence in the long term. Improved programmes make them more interesting for companies and attract new members.

Pilot projects to test the new services

By the end of the project, 10 new training programmes are to be developed and offered as pilot projects. The best-practice experiences will be documented and shared within the chamber network.
